Move and be Moved

The Group Motion Company observes and expresses the human experience through movement.

Each dance becomes a world of its own, transforming the stage into a ritual space to explore life's mysteries and journeys.

Group Motion finds inspiration in universal sources - from myth, nature, and social issues to relationships and everyday adventures. The dances evolve from a theme and develop through a unique process of collaborating among the dancers, choreographers, and associated artists.

The are then layered with distincitve combinations of video, text, soundscape, visual art, and original music. The result is a richly textures, image-filled evocation of the theme or "story."

Whether the dance is abstract or theatrical, humorous or thoughtful, the effect is always direct communication between the dancers and the audience - always inviting a response.

From this vision, Group Motion has evolved a four part program:

• The Company of Performing Artists.
• The Presenting Series. The Spiel Uhr (Play Clock) Series presents the work of emerging and established local, national, and international performing artists.
• Workshops. The Group Motion Workshop invites all members of the public to explore dance through improvisation, whether at regularly weekly sessions or annual week-long retreats.
• Kumquat Dance Center. In 1996, Group Motion initiated and co-founded the Kumquat Dance Center, a cooperative, artist-driven alliance of contemporary dance companies, who share performance programs, performance and rehearsal space, and operational resources.
