Arcosanti, AZ Summer Retreat

Arcosanti is an experimental town that began construction in 1970 in central Arizona, 70 miles north of Phoenix, by Architect Paolo Soleri, using a concept he calls arcology (a portmanteau of architecture and ecology). Soleri started the town to demonstrate how urban conditions could be improved while minimizing the destructive impact on the earth.

Group Motion has been offering dance/ movement retreats in Arcosanti for many years. Each week-long retreat includes two daily sessions; morning and evening, leaving the afternoons open for exploration, relaxation and excursions into the beautiful landscapes of Arizona.

Led by Manfred Fischbeck and Brigitta Herrmann, Group Motion workshops combine structures of improvisation, movement meditations, and contact dance. Discover and experience the language of dance. Witness the visionary “Urban Laboratory” or Paolo Soleri’s Arcosanti, with architecture, nature and ecology in a harmonious balance. Dance in an outdoor theater on the edge of a beautiful canyon.

Usually held at the end of July, beginning of August, the Arcosanti Retreat provides very affordable rooms and meals and a climate that  is comfortable because of its high desert location and monsoon breezes at this time of the year.
